A quiet week of absorbing at work, with the end of a years-long campaign suddenly in sight.

Shipped

Nothing major shipped this week, unless you count the expense reports from my Austin trip. Otherwise the work week was spent quietly processing everything I took in while I was out there and preparing to move into a brand new domain.

Read

Reading has really taken a back seat somehow. I’ll get back to it some day.

Played

Saturday was my first Gloomhaven session actually playing Hail, and she is a lot of fun. We got through two scenarios and then came to a realization: we only have two more to go, which makes our next session our very last one. This campaign has lasted a couple of years, and I knew we were near the end, but the suddenness caught us all off-guard. Not to fear, though. I’ve got Frosthaven sitting on the shelf and ready to go.

After gaming I raced downtown to our annual Pride festival. I arrived late but found parking right near the parade endpoint, and got there just as the first float pulled up. I walked the route backwards and managed to see everyone by the time I reached the front. Afterwards I hung out with friends for a bit and wandered through the many artists and other vendors who turned out. It was a great day.

Tuesday at Tiki Taco Tuesday I packed up my painting supplies, and several of my Gloomhaven players met me there to paint our minis. Hail is looking great, and I can’t believe I only get one more session with her.

Cooked

I love a good Old Fashioned and usually have all the ingredients for one at home. I also find Hochstadter’s Rock and Rye to be a tasty and inexpensive ready-made alternative. They have a new cherry version that finally made it to Athens, and I picked up a bottle. Consider it Eric-approved.

Thinking About

I’ve been tasked with automating both our release process and all of the documentation that goes into safely releasing software into a medical lab. What we’re doing is incredibly disruptive to the established way of doing things, and just the opposite for our users in the lab. They’re used to downtime that lasts for hours, with long stretches between updates, and we can now give them near-continuous updates without them even noticing we’ve done anything.

What’s Next

Juniper will be spending the weekend at HeroesCon in Charlotte, thanks to the comics scholarship she won a couple of years ago. She befriended Bob Camp, the co-creator of Ren & Stimpy, at the same convention last year, and I’m looking forward to spending a day with her as she shows me around.
